CoreWeave Acquired Conductor Technologies to serve special effects (VFX) companies with cloud-based graphics processing technologies.
CoreWeave said the deal will empower the media and entertainment industry to access the industry’s fastest and most flexible cloud infrastructure with easy-to-use and intuitive workflows for rendering graphics at scale.
The acquisition allows CoreWeave to expand its suite of solutions and capabilities for VFX and animation studios to easily integrate workloads into the cloud.
With the addition of Conductor Technologies, CoreWeav will have 95 employees, and Conductor Technologies CEO Mac Moore will now lead CoreWeav’s media and entertainment division under Michael Intrator, CEO.
The combined companies said they could remove friction from the customer setup process. By enhancing existing functionality, Conductor customers will also be able to take advantage of solutions that include access to a wide range of Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs).
“Demand for cloud-based GPU resources to render VFX and animation projects has soared, while persistent supply chain challenges have hampered access to compute. CoreWeave provides the specialized resources our customers rely on at scale, expanding the possibilities for studios and artists to render work quickly and efficiently Moore said in a statement. “To date, we’ve focused our development on specifically streamlining content production with the artist in mind, and we’re excited to extend Conductor’s functionality to CoreWeave customers across all high-performance computing workloads, including AI and ML.”
CoreWeave already helps modernize VFX and rendering workflows as one of its core offerings: flexible on-demand artist workstations, virtually unlimited rendering capacity, and network-attached storage. Customers can turn to NVIDIA GPUs and CPUs that are highly optimized for rendering, on-demand and scale. Modular VFX pipeline solutions provide flexibility, scalability and an intuitive path to cloud migration.
“You’d be hard-pressed to find a more efficient way to access cloud-based resources than Conductor. With intuitive orchestration across multiple compute options and application license management, it eliminates the headaches associated with deploying cloud resources. We are excited to bring the Conductor team and development resources under the CoreWeave banner as we collaborate on the shared goal of helping shape the future of cloud-based technology,” Intrator said in a statement.
CoreWeave is a specialized cloud provider that provides massive scale GPU computing resources on top of a fast and flexible infrastructure. CoreWeave builds cloud solutions for compute-intensive use cases — VFX and rendering, machine learning and AI, batch processing and Pixel Streaming — that are 35x faster and 80% less expensive than large, generalized public clouds, the company said.
